Chatamari is a famous Newari dish that is a crepe made of rice flour and topped with mixed spices (chili powder, cumin powder, ginger-garlic paste, etc.), eggs, mincemeat (buff or chicken), and seasoning vegetables. It is also referred to as a Newari pizza with different tastes.
There are varieties of Chatamari like vegetable Chatamari, Egg Chatamari, Keema Chatamari, and plain Chatamari. It can also be easily found in many restaurants in the Kathmandu Valley.
Chatamari is usually eaten by dipping it in Nepali-style achaar, which gives you a better taste. The food is eaten as a snack.
The Chatamari is cooked on medium heat, which may take around 7-8 minutes to be ready for serving.
Here is a simple recipe on how to cook the Chatamari with ingredients:
Required ingredients for making Chatamari:
- Rice Flour (1 cup)
- Water (1.5-2 cups)
- Eggs (1)
- Salt to taste
- Oil (4 tablespoons)
- Onion (1/2 medium size, finely
chopped) - Tomato (1 Chopped)
- Red chili powder (1/2 tablespoon)
- Green Chilies (1, finely chopped)
- Ginger-Garlic Paste (1 tablespoon)
- Coriander (Green, Chopped)
- Turmeric Powder (1/2 teaspoon)
- Cumin-Coriander Powder (1/2 tablespoon)
- Minced Meat (1cup)
Instructions to make Chatamri:
- Take a dish, add rice flour, and mix with water to make the batter, which should be thinner but not too watery.
- Let it rest for 10 to 15 minutes.
- Now, add minced meat, onion, cumin-coriander powder, turmeric powder, red chili powder, salt, and ginger-garlic paste and mix it well.
- Heat the pan, add one tablespoon of oil, and pour in the batter. Make sure that batter is spread like a pancake.
- Now, on top of the batter, add the mixture you made. You can also add toppings such as minced meat, vegetables, or eggs, as desired.
- Then break a whole egg on top of it. Cover the pan and cook on medium heat for 5-7 minutes. Remember, do not flip the batter.
- Chatamari is done!!
