A SWIFT code (also known as a BIC code) is a unique identifier code used to identify financial institutions for international money transfers. It is a standard format of Business Identifier Codes (BIC) and serves as an international bank code for money transfers. 

A SWIFT code is made up of 8 or 11 characters, which include letters and numbers. The first 4 characters of the code identify the bank, the next 2 characters identify the country, and the last 2 characters identify the location of the bank’s branch. For example, in the SWIFT code “ABCDEFGHIJK”, “ABCD” would identify the bank, “EF” would identify the country, and “GH” would identify the location of the branch. 

When making an international money transfer, it is important to provide the correct SWIFT code of the recipient bank in order to ensure that the transfer is properly credited to the correct account. It’s important to note that SWIFT codes are only used for international wire transfers and not for domestic transfers. 

You can find the SWIFT code of a bank by visiting the bank’s website, contacting the bank directly, or through financial institution databases such as the SWIFT website.

It is also known as a Bank Identification Code (BIC), which means SWIFT Code and Bank Identification Code are exactly the same thing.
